Lions v Dodgers (L).. More Photos Added!!

For our last league game this season against the Dodgers we decided to do something a bit different..

Male MVP: Gordon
Female MVP: Carrol

Manchester Tournament!!

Manchester Tournament 2007..

Lions v Mutineers (W 7-5)

In the penultimate game of the 2007 season the Lions were in a bit of a crunch match. A win could claim 3rd place in the league but a loss could mean they drop as low as 5th.

It was a shaky start with the Mutineers taking a 1 - 0 lead in the first innings. Worried Lions didn't seem to be able to bat, that is apart from Vic who hit a great triple followed by a massive (game winning) home run!

Fielding by the Lions was very impressive with (so i'm told) only 2 errors in the whole game, even tho throughout the game the the base running / coaching was as Gordon described it S%!@%T.

In the end it was Vics 3 run home run in the bottom of the 6th that put the Lions in the lead by 2 and then a shut down in the 7th gave the Lions a Victory.

Short time later, the scores from the other games came in and indeed the Lions have now claimed 3rd place in the League! So pressures off for the last game and the Lions, after battling hard in every game this season can relax against the Dodgers.

MVP Female: Vic
MVP Male: Ed

HR's:Vic (1)

Other Congratulations: Obviously to Vic for her 2 great hits, Kelly for a fantastic 3 base left line drive. One-Can played a blinder at short with several very athletic catches and double plays and Gordy for keeping score.

Lions v Phoenix (W 6-5)

In what can only be described as a pretty dull game as the majority of the lions bats were asleep and with the main focus unfortunately being on the Calls made by umpires. Lions looked dominant until the last innings when the strike zone suddenly shrunk, the Lions come out Victorious and hold on to there hard earnt 3rd position in the league..

MVP Female: Vic
MVP Male:Adam

HR's:Adam (1)

The Lions were out in force at the Single Sex Nationals with almost all lions taking part across the board:

Ed - Hoggs B Comp
Lee, Gordon, Derek - Matatdors C Comp
Adam - Exiles C Comp
Vic - Minx B Comp
Gill, Michelle, Ang - More Minx C Comp

It was great to see that all the men managed to bring home a trophy. The Hoggs being crowned B Comp National Champions and the Matadors C Comp National Champions. Even though the Exiles lost in the C Comp final, Adam valiantly won the male MVP, despite the 'Manchester rent a crowd' doing there best to put him off pitching.

Next year it has to be the ladies turn!!!

Lions Will be in Div 1 for 2008!

Following the Win against the Camels it is now impossible for the Lions to get relegated. So watch out Div 1.. the lions will be back in 2008!

Currently sitting in 3rd place with only 3 games to go, the Lions are looking very strong position for a podium position at the end of the season.

Well done to the whole team.. every single one of you little buggers!

Lions v Camels (W 14-8)

Looking Good.. the Lions put in a impressive performance against a strong Camels team. The Lions took a early lead which slowly extended inning by inning. A strong fielding performance mid game saw the Camels shut out (scoring zero) for 3 innings in a row. Going into the 7th the Lions were 10 ahead, then Ed's pitching nearly crumbled under the immense pressure of a potential 3rd place in the league. Fortunately the Outs came and the rest of the team held it together to take the win with a bat in hand.

MVP Female: Gill
MVP Male: One-Can

HR's: Ed (1), Gordon (1)

Other Congratulations: Gill played a stormer on 1st base, Mitch, Lee and Ed for batting 1000, Gordy for a impressive batting performance and Ang for a great right field hit.

Lions v Mavs (L 24-9)

Mavs give the Lions a lesson in base hitting and picking the holes in the outfield.. It has to be said that the Mavs showed the Lions exactly why they were at the top of the 1st Division for so long.

Lions go back to the den to collect their thoughts and re coop before Emerald.

A limerick by Gordy to help ease the pain...

There once was a team called the Mavs,
Which conveniently rhymes with chavs,
but they murdered the Lions,
which felt like hot irons,
on poor old Gordinho's nads.

MVP Female: Carrol
MVP Male: Adam

Lions v Greensox (W 9-8)

A amazing win for the Lions despite the absence of the Gaffa and with stand in pitcher Derek! The mighty Greensox are not unbeatable after all. Here's a short Limerick by Lee to mark the victory.

There once was a team called the Sox,
With Linda, Lauren and Rox,
They looked good on the grass,
But the Lions kicked their ass,
and Danny stepped out of the box!

MVP Female: Carrol
MVP Male: Mitch

HR's:

Other Congratulations: Derek for a great pitching performance (Statto watch out, Derek's about!) and to captain Lindsay!

Lions v Mutineers (W 25-11)

A fantastic win for Lions! Everyone (with no exceptions) played really well. For the first time in a league game this season everyone batted really well from the off, nearly going through the order in the first innings!

We started with a good lead which rattled the Mutineers. They came back to within 2 or 3 runs at one point but then a couple of 'shut downs' later and another good batting innings and we won comfortably.

For the Saviors, Adam pitched well despite a strict blue and a nasty cross wind. Lee had a faultless performance at short and batted like a dream at the top of the order (definitely a contender for MVP!), As always Gordy was as solid as a rock in left field with a great home run down the left line. Darrel had a great day on first and even snook a home run. Ed had some great catches in right center and batting was as jammy as ever. Derek's 2 home runs were a great contribution as DH.

For the Yogurts, Carrol was faultless at catcher and when she catches it with the bat, boy does it fly! Lins had a superb running catch in left field and a cracking shot over the outfield ("Toast" I hear you cry) gave her a deserved home run. As expected the Gaffa's crazy base running and solid fielding helped keep team confidence at a high and Kelly played like a dream in right field. Nothing went through Mich on 3rd and Vic (recently nicknamed "A-Comp" by Gordy) had some great hits as DH.

MVP Female: Lins
MVP Male: Darrel (Lions), Ed (Mutineers)

HR's: Lins (1), Derek (2), Adam (2), Gordon (1), Darrel (1),

Other Congratulations: Gill looked great in the pants of shame and to Lins for her home run!

Lions v Phoenix (W 16-8)

Despite a good pre game mince and Ed modeling the 'Pants of Shame' in the first innings the post tourney blues nearly hit the Lions again. It was a slow start and very close for the first couple of innings. Although it wasn't a great performance from the Lions the batting improved towards the end and runs followed. It would seem that Ed's Jam is spreading to the rest of the team with a few dropped catches by the Phoenix. But.. We won!!!

MVP Female: Lins
MVP Male: Ed / Adam

HR's: Adam (2), Lee (1)

Other Congratulations: Gill won the Pants of Shame award for spitting out her dummy and throwing glove on floor. We know who'll be looking stupid in the first innings against the Mutineers next week!

Lions v Spittin' Camels (L 4-6)

Who said softball was a hitting game.. someone forgot to tell the Lions!!!! Who left the bats in Slough!!

MVP Female: Gill
MVP Male: Mitch

HR's: Getting on base was difficult never mind scoring a Home Run.

Other Congratulations: Has to go to Mitch who despite everyone else forgetting there bats still managed to bat 1000, then again he didn't go to Slough!

Lions v Mavericks (L 8-24)

Hopes were high following last weeks win against the Dodgers; However, giving the Mavs an 11 run led is not the best start to the game. Throughout the game the Mavs showed why they are unbeaten for 30+ league games with a lesson in softball. The Lions fought back to 14-7 at one point but then the Mavs stepped up again and battered the Lions outfield.

MVP Female: Michelle / Vic
MVP Male: Lee / Gordon

HR's: Ed (1)

Other Congratulations: A couple of great catches by both Gordon and Vic in the outfield at crucial times in the game helped the Lions stay in with a chance. Mich had another fantastic tag at 3 and ALL the Yogurts batting stepped up a level. Commiserations to Ed and Gordon who had their first out at bat and are no longer batting 1000.

Lions v Dodgers (W 21-19)

It was a excellent win for the Lions and a great comeback following the defeat to the Greensox. The first division runners up last year fielded a very strong team had a great start getting 6 runs in the 1st innings while the lions scored a big fat 0. The lions never gave up and push them to the tie in the 7th.. finally taking the win by 2 runs in the 8th (despite the Dodgers fielding an 11th player disguised as the blue).

MVP Female: Vic
MVP Male: Ed

Other Congratulations: Lee had a great double at SS, Mich a great game at 3, Adam held his nerve whilst batters were looking to walk, "Super Gay" base hit like a trooper, Carrol as always your batting was superb, Kelster showed she still has balls of steel in the batters box taking an important walk and the outfield showed pure class. Also well done to the Gaff!

Lions v Greensox (L 6-21)

This was the Lions opening game of the 2007 season. Following a winter of intense training and a lot of drinking the first game was eagerly anticipated! While the Lions played well, the Greensox played a whole lot better and took a easy win. Enough Said!

MVP Female: Nhan
MVP Male: Ed

HR's: Ed (1)
